What is wrong with my computer?

I had the free version of Panda Antivirus and now I've installed Avast Antivirus. Now I'm trying to delete Panda but I can't do it because the system says I've got a virus in one of the Panda files! The error code is Error Code: %26lt;-5006 : 0x80070002%26gt;

Error Description: %26lt;%26gt;SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (1194)pAPP:Panda Antivirus 2007PVENDOR:Panda SoftwarePGUID:D1DA2BA7-2592-4036-9BB2-DC... XP Service Pack 2 (2600) IE 6.0.2900.2180%26gt;

Is it normal for a well reputed antivirus like Panda to become itself infected with viruses? Furthermore, the computer is very slow and it oftens crashes. Any ideas? Thanks and Happy New Year!

Delete both Antivirus products first. Than try to install the product you wish to use.
Reply:I have had Panda and I do not think it is "well reputed" It is one step away from being a virus itself and will constantly send nagging email about buying new packages from them.

Have you tried "delete software" with its uninstall under Control settings? Have you tried going to the directory Panda is in and deleting any files you see there? Have you tried calling Avast Antivirus on their help line and telling them that their software is failing to get rid of a virus?

I also think Shawn's idea to delete both packages and reinstall Avast is worth a try. It can't make it worse and it might be helpful.
Reply:I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or the subject antivirus program . It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html

The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at

Reply:Try this it worked for me. Plus its fast.

1. Click the start menu

2. Click Run

3. Type in msconfig and press "OK"

4. Click on Services top right, next to start up.

5. Click on "Hide all Microsoft Services" (Programs needed to run windows)

6. Click on "Disable all"

7. Now click on Startup (top right)

8. Disable All(Disabling all Stupid programs not needed to run windows.

9. Click Apply then close.

10. It will ask you to restart for changes to take effect. "RESTART" You will notice the difference as it boots. If no Difference. More than likely Hardware issues.
Reply:try uninstalling as opposed to deleting. some things will seem to have been deleted like desktop icons, but until you uninstall they'll still be present.
Reply:uh oh. .. I'd say - first of all - do not install 2 firewall, 2 anti viruses, and etc at once.

Maybe try uninstalling both? Reboot in the safe mode and then uninstall? Make sure both of them don't start at the same time either.

start --%26gt; run --%26gt; msconfig ENTER

Go to start up tab and uncheck anything that is connected to the antivirus you are uninstalling, then go to services tap and also uncheck everything connected to your antivirus. Reboot in the safe mode, uninstall ... try terminating the processes from your task manager and the uninstalling again ...

It'd be way easier if we could see what the system is doing ...

Good luck.
Reply:First, never delete a program. Always use Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. You can try to uninstall in safe mode though some apps won't uninstall in safe mode. To try, hit Start--%26gt;Shut Down and choose Restart. When Windows is finished shutting down start tapping the F8 key for the Advanced Boot Options screen and choose Safe Mode.

Second, never run more than one AV at a time. They will conflict and cause system errors. Panda gets a lot of awards and gets good ratings so the 'Panda is crap' is just stone throwing and gets us no where.

Third, the virus in question is probably in 'Quarantine' which a safe folder to render the virus harmless. There should be an option for it's safe deletion when you uninstall the app.

Panda offers a stand-alone app for uninstalling Panda AV but advised the above steps first. Check it out.

Good luck and Happy New Year!!
