How much do I get back for Income tax? Which line to look at...?

Do I just look at "Income tax deducted - line 437", or do I add that, along with Employee's CPP contribution - line 308, and/or Employee's EI premiums - line 312?

Do I add all three together, or just look at one, or two? Thanks! Just want to have an idea as to how much I'll get back!

You need to look at the return as a whole to answer that question.

Typically you calculate your total taxable income based on your T4 income and other sources of income. From that you determine tax credits and taxes owing. If taxes owing is less than line 437 you're getting a refund. Otherwise you have to pay.

The CPP and EI figures won't be refunded unless there's an overpayment. Overpayments tend to arise when people switch jobs during a year and have two T4s
Reply:Your income tax deducted is how much was taken from your cheques.

You need to calculate your taxable income. Then calculate federal and provincial income taxes, based on your taxable income. From that, you subtract tax credits. Once you have a final tax amount, you compare against the taxes that were deducted from your pay cheques to determine whether you get a refund or owe taxes.
